Antiqua - In Red Nights...

	Review courtesy John "Bo Bo" Bollenberg, January 2000 Heavy, dark metal with an occasional morbid "doom" voice through which another voice, which holds the balance between opera and Joan Baez, is woven. That's about the recipe for the band Antiqua making this a very strange band indeed. On In Red Nights … of course, the loud guitars get the upper hand, whilst the more intricate parts remind us of the middle ages. As opposed to bands like Pain of Salvation and Stratovarius (to name but two), we can't trace any keyboards here, so all variation comes courtesy of two guitarists. Not really easy to label this quintet and only able to give this disc a couple of spins it might well be that this Mexican band will get a more acceptable "face" in the future, should they add a keyboard player. If you look closely to the photo on the sleeve, one has to admit that this band consists of five VERY young guys so we have to forgive them this naïve release and hope for the best in the future.
