Reviewed by: Davide Guidone, January 2004 Primary Fear is the fourth album from the Italian power prog band, Arachnes. This band counts on a great guitarist like Franco Caruso, a guitar virtuoso, and on a good singer, too, like Enzo Caruso. Their music is a power prog symphonic metal with a lot of neoclassical influences. It is arranged a lot and it has some prog tastes, like the track called "Eruption" shows. It is the first part of Tarkus by Emerson, Lake and Palmer and there is a double bass drum in it that lets the sound get close to power music. Plus you can find a great solo by Franco Caruso. It’s a pity that the album hasn’t a lot of variations, so the sound remains too similar to itself. In fact, this is the main problem. But I think that is a general problem of the neoclassical power-prog style. It’s too repetitive. To conclude, this is a good power prog release, with all pros and cons of the genre.
