Reviewed by: Davide Guidone, April 2003 Area is one of the best-known Italian prog-rock bands and perhaps the lead group in Italy during the Seventies. Maledetti is their fourth studio release and it is a little bit different from the others. In fact it marks a new evolution on the part of the group To produce this record, Area gathered together many musicians from different musical genres, like Steve Lacy or Paul Lytton. This fact can be noticed in listening to the songs that make up part of this album. Each one is very different from other, and on it you can find out classical music, experimental music, fusion and so on. As opposed to other famous Italian prog bands, Area hasn't had any influence by the English bands of that period, but I think in some cases their music is more similar to Return To Forever and sometimes is very hard to listen to. This disc is very weird, there isnt any specific idea and I believe it is less successful than the previous ones. At the end of the disc there is a ghost track, an interview with Stratos, Tofani and Fariselli after a concert in Milan.
