Reviewed by: Bjørnar Bevolden, November 2002 Finally, the highly anticipated new album by Norwegian-based progressive metal band Ark has arrived. Since their debut, the band now consists of Jørn Lande (v), Tore Østby (g), Randy Coven (b), John Macaluso (d), and Mats Olausson (k). From their debut, the music has changed somewhat and is now more polished and more accessible than before. I can already say by now that this CD will go down as one of the best prog metal albums of 2001 and in prog metal history. This is a very varied album, but I guess fans of Conception will shit themselves when they hear the first 4 tracks of this CD. The style is somewhat hard to pigeonhole because of the variation from song to song and the diligent use of various musical influences. Burn The Sun has it all: heavy, chunky riffs ala Conception, classical guitars, flamenco guitars, etc. all put together with strong, accessible melodies, a flawless production, an insanely strong rhythm section and the God-like mid-ranged vocals of Jørn Lande. This is probably Lande's best performance to date coming off as a chameleon, changing his tone for almost each song. Stunning! As mentioned earlier the band has produced something really special, something that does not deserve to be labeled into one single category. But in order for the readers to get a clue were Ark is musically, I'd say that if you like prog metal and melodic heavy, topped by probably one of the best line-ups ever, this is an absolute must. Classic!
