Reviewed by: Keith "Muzikman" Hannaleck, January 2004 Pat Benatar was red-hot and sweeping the country with her fired up rock ‘n’ roll and larger than life vocals in 1981. She was a sexy little dynamo with the heart of lion onstage. Future husband Neil Giraldo was one of the more technically sound guitarists of that era and their partnership was magical. Greatest Hits Live is another tremendous live recording from the golden vaults of King Biscuit Flower Hour. The first thing that grabbed me was the sound - whoa! It is not as good as 5.1-surround sound like you would find on an SACD but it is a close second, and that about says it all for the sound quality, it doesn’t get much better for a live recording. Benatar had quite a list of hits at the time of this recording, and there is no doubt that it serves as one of her defining moments onstage. This is the kind of CD you play over and over again and never tire of. “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” and “Promises in the Dark” sound just as good today as they did when they first hit the airwaves. This CD was one more reminder of how exciting, energizing and spine tingling Pat Benatar’s music could be.
