The band's frenetic style on the opening "Miscreant Citizen” storms out of the speakers, and for the most part maintains this pace throughout. Of all the Echolyn comparisons that have been made about the band, the approach on the opening track most resembles them. A touch of punk attitude seems to poke out of a couple tracks, most notably "Dancing With Your Pants Down." The use of the flute in this track I found quite humoruous, but it works. The "progabilly” sounds of "She’s No Vegetarian” throw a curve into the disc, and could be the only song I have ever heard to use the word "stool”, and not in the sense of sitting on one. Lyrically, the band uses abstract, humorous and often disturbing images ("Doll Hammer") to make commentary or just make you laugh. Constant time changes often create a choppy style (another reason for the Echolyn comparison?) but many influences from jazz to punk and pop show up within. By the time I got to the end of this CD, it seemed a few more subtle moments would be welcome, as the constant hyper speed approach can grow a bit tiresome after a full listen. Without any other descriptions or comparisons, one thing I can guarantee the listener, you get challenging complex music from this band and maybe a chuckle too.
