Reviewed by: Eric Porter, November 2002 The California Guitar Trio's existence can be traced back to Robert Fripp's League of Crafty Guitarists. So it only makes sense that King Crimson alumni Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto join up for this studio outing. Levin's appearance at Nearfest 2001 with CGT brought the audience to their feet, so this is a lineup that should attract more listeners. Guitarists will be wowed by the interplay, and arrangements. As enjoyable as this is, I am most attracted to the band's outstanding covers of Yes's "Heart Of The Sunrise," Mahavishu Orchestra's "Dance Of Maya" and the snippets of Crimson that are found in "Zundoko - Bushi". This is some really great stuff, showing off the power of the acoustic guitar (some electric guitar is used as well). Clean and crisp production make the music jump right through the speakers. Levin and Mastelotto bring out the best in the trio, so don't miss this one.
