Dream Theater - Scenes From A Memory

Review courtesy Vitaly Menshikov of ProgressoR

This one is worthy. Dream Theater is back with their unique multi-layered sound. At times reminiscent of other epics like Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime, Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon, Saga's Generation 13, etc. But don't get me wrong.. the DT SOUND is still there: Complex textures, magnificient arrangements, harmonyous melodies, virtuotic playing.. just put together Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On," and Yes' "The Gates Of Delirium," ya know what I mean. The theme itself is interesting and poly-dimensional. Considering subjects like: eternity, re-incarnation, karma , deception (I'm not gonna spoil the story by analyzing it here. Make your own interpretation! )

Stand out tracks are "Overture 1928," "The Dance Of Eternity," and "Finally Free." Odd-time avantgardism and AOR-tones are balanced together perfectly on this record. Gotta love it!!
