Reviewed by: Keith "Muzikman" Hannaleck, July 2002 This was Grand Funk Railroad at their very raunchiest and most simplified. They were a power trio that played working man's rock and roll, and their fans loved them for it. The 1971 tour featured a group at its peak with plenty of music from studio recordings to please their audience. The songs on this CD are taken from different shows that they played that year. "T.N.U.C." is a marathon rocker with Don Brewer playing an extended drum solo; he does a great job getting the fans all sweaty and pumped up. "Inside Looking Out," which is another extended jam session, is dedicated to all the pot smokers, except I don't think the faithful realized what Mark was really singing about, although it doesn't seem to matter, as everyone is having a good time rocking out. At one point during the concert their manager Terry Knight, asked the person that swiped Mark's wah-wah pedal to return it and they would give it back to them after the show, otherwise they wouldn't be able to do their encore, so the thief gives it up and the show goes on. There is always more than just the music to absorb at a live event if you really want to listen. This is a great memento for those of you they may have been at any of these concerts in 1971, and it's a helluva a lot of fun if ya weren't. This is kick as rock 'n' roll played the way it's supposed to be. So are you ready? Come and get it while it's hot.
