Reviewed by: Igor Italiani, August 2006 After the short yet stunning debut album titled Senza Censure, Guernica wasted no time and conceived Senza Sudare, another brief opus that comprises five acoustic gems. In fact the most astonishing development of this record is the new sound direction that the band chooses to follow while renouncing to their electric instruments. We can say that the bar is set high (especially for a second platter), but Guernica brilliantly fulfill all expectations with cleverness and melodic savvy. To do so the role of Enzo Di Somma, one of their most skilled players, is enhanced to the maximum alongside the entire strings arrangements. The best example is given by "Cantico," where double bass, viola and violin form a unique bond that harshly surrounds the dark lyrics almost whispered by Tony D'Alessio. But we can find beauty right from the start, thanks to the mellow and passionate "Un Dubbio Irrilevante," which reminds me of some acoustic highlights delivered by world-renowned Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso. The same could be said about "Insostituibile," another strong track that delivers a phenomenal melody right there between popular music and progressive rock roots. On the other hand "Post-X" results in an eclectic passage, where you can spot the mandolin and some theatrical choruses, too. After the above-mentioned "Cantico," it's time for "Io" to surprise the listener with another huge band effort, so good that in the end we are left asking for more.
