The man behind Pulse, Vince O'Regan, has been a guitarist for 20 years and has been involved with a lot of bands including Bob Catley, Kip Winger and No Sweat as well as a handful of tribute bands.

Pulse play melodic hard rock bordering on AOR. While the music might sound a bit dated, they get away with it due to the quality of the songs offered. Although O'Regan is the brainchild of this band, he does not dominate the sound in any way. The instruments are nicely balanced and it is the vocals that are the centre of attention. Vocalist Simon Abbotts has a good, controlled mid ranged voice and is a perfect match for this kind of music. While [neither] the music nor the production sparkle with energy, the melodies are for the most part good. The first two songs stand out and I think that the CD would have benefited by keeping 10 of the best songs instead of 12.

While there is nothing special or outstanding about this album, the material presented is above average and should appeal to most fans of AOR/hard rock in the vein of Heartland, Journey, Atlantic and Magnum. A good, solid release. Nothing more, nothing less.
