Masterplan - Aeronautics

Label: AFM Records
Catalog Number: AFM 084-2
Format: CD
Total Time: 54:07:00

Evaluation:

Masterplan's sophomore effort is finely crafted power-metal mixed with a heady dose of traditional heavy-metal bombast?.

Analysis:

I wish with all of my heart that musicians of this caliber would ask their producer, or their closest confidantes, to intercede on their behalf to find a lyricist who could provide them with something other than the absolutely reprehensible drivel Aeronautics presents. I've said it before and I'll say it again ? if English isn?t your mother tongue, DON'T write lyrics in English. Any band that uses the words "drinking" and "thinking," "fool" and "rule" in the same proximity, let alone the same sentence, deserves the harshest of remonstrations.

"Dark soul in pain ? my eyes cry softly in the rain" ? just shoot me now ...

I am going to continue to decry this wanton abuse of the English language. Someone has to stand for the rights of this complicated, unwieldy, idiot bastard son of a tongue ? I am on a mission, nay a crusade, to stop the perpetration of these types of horrendous human rights violations by European songwriters ? At least ABBA had the decency to quit while they were ahead ...

Rating:

4 /5 (the plus is for the fact that I will probably never see the video for "Back For My Life")

Summary:

These are absolutely killer musicians, and the music is of the highest quality. If you like power with a hint of prog, or heavy symphonic-tinged traditional metal with modern production values, Aeronautics is for you.
