This is a new interesting progressive metal band from Germany. What initially caught my attention was that former Dreamscape singer Hubi Meisel (who sung on the glorious Very) is fronting this band. I contacted the band and shortly after this demo CD turned up in my mailbox. SceneS is a 6-piece band, with dual guitars.

Stylistically this is pretty close to what Dreamscape were doing on their latest offering. This feeling is, of course, strengthened due to Hubi's characteristic vocals. Their sound is filled with staccato riffs and atmospheric keys. Sometimes being very heavy, [it can] in the next second break into beautiful atmospheric and emotive moods. The instrumentation is good and there are many cool progressive parts and passages. The melodies are good and easily accessible. Both verses and choruses are very melodic.

I find a lot of promise in this demo disc. The four songs offered are surprisingly good and they clearly possess the ability to write catchy, melodic, but intricate songs. The songs all need some final polishing, but all in all this is good work. I can't wait to hear some of these songs with a proper studio production. Should be worth the wait. Fans of Dreamscape, Arkhe, and Stramonio should enjoy this one. Keep up the great work; it's only a matter of time before these guys get signed.
