The only downside to listening to KBB's Live 2004 disc is the sound of about 12 people clapping in the audience at the end of each song. Once you get past this depressing little distraction, get ready for some rocking fusion from this Japanese quartet. Violin and keyboards are the source for furious melodic leads, presenting fusion in the ways of the 70s masters. For me, Fusion has always represented a genre fueled by the combination jazz techniques with raw, intense, rock influenced playing. Outside of heavy metal, rarely does music ever show this much muscle. The band also has moments that clearly nod to some symphonic progressive influences. KBB's music is all instrumental, and the violin is its driving force. Intricate unison lines between the violin and keyboard appear often, and lovers of the instrument will be drenched in its sounds. The music is full of melody, and always has that interesting undercurrent from the other instruments. Highlights include the opening "Discontinuous Spiral," followed by an unreleased song "Inner Flames" that at times makes it sound like there is a guitarist joining them onstage. If you feel like dropping a few extra bucks, the band also has a DVD available with a few different tracks, allowing you to watch these guys smoke onstage!

Also released in Japan by Poseidon (PRF-025)
