Wow. Wow. Wow. Rawhead Rexx, a shocking name for a band, but, like Lost Horizon, they play some heavy, heavy, power metal.

A semi-concept disc centred around a mythical creature ("Rawhead Rexx" - what a title track!), is loosely based around a Clive Barker novella from 1984. The band features former Glenmore (now there's a name that hasn't been heard for years) screamer Jurgen Volk whose monster lungs push a masterful CD into star status. From the moment it begins (a wolf-like growl for one solid minute) to the first track "Town Of Skulls" you know you are in for one hell of a ride.

Musically, the band remind me of the early-mid years of Vicious Rumors, hard driving, heavy riffing, 80s metal mixed evenly with melodic power metal. It's definitely got the goods guitar-wise which is taken care of by Rudy Fleck (Letter X) and Jurgen Volk. Production is taken care of by the band members with Charlie Bauerfeind's involvment - a masterful stroke of genius is this disc. If you are a fan of either Glenmore or 80s metal - then get it. This is much heavier than many other discs doing the rounds at the moment. Nothing clean about it and it still retains an element of evil throughout.

Note: The first pressing is being censored due to the cover artwork - get it while you can.
