In reading about Knight Area, the concept and songs for The Sun Also Rises were conceived approximately 20 years ago by leader Gerben Klazinga. The music, not surprisingly, fits the mold of bands like IQ, Pendragon and Pallas. Knight Area have a few hurdles in their path, the biggest of them are the vocals of Mark Smit, who unfortunately has a very ordinary voice. His delivery seems flat, although that could also be pinned on the lackluster melody lines. The shining moments come during the keyboard and guitar solos, and were the only moments of the album that I really enjoyed. Slick production even ruins these sections, as it tends to take the life out of the songs. Neo-Progressive does not have to equal ordinary and bland, but in Knight Area's case, I am afraid it does.
