Progressive rock has evolved over the years and in recent times we have something called "neo-prog" and bands such as Yes and King Crimson are often referred to as "prog-dinosaurs." No surprise as a lot of the young people who listen to prog these days did not grow up with these bands. However, progressive rock would not be called like that, if it wasn't progressive and from Sweden a young band (age of the members is around 20) emerged, who have created an album with the technology of the 90s, but with the sound of the 70s! Their self titled debut album, Liquid Scarlet, has a sound close to King Crimson, with lot's of other 70s influences.

This is pretty amazing, as these guys show here that "old school" progressive rock is very much alive and not just for people over 40 (no offense, of course!), but for the youth of today as well. In the CD booklet is a photo of the band, showing 5 young kids with a distinct 70s look, and I especially noticed the keyboard Frida Lundström plays: mellotron! And these kids can play!! In the 8 tracks that are on the album, they take you to another spiritual level, with music from the highest class. Olov Anderson (guitar, clarinet, tambourine) and Johan Lundström (drums, percussion, acoustic guitar, church organ, tin whistle, backing vocals) are excellent composers, who have even written poetry in the lyrics, such as in "Hesitating In The Foyer" and "The Red Stairs," where all the lines rhyme. In "Citta Nuova" the band shows they captured the true spirit of the 70s, including psychedelic parts and some amazing mellotron arrangements, which are really cool.

Liquid Scarlet's debut album is not an album to waste much words on, it is an album you must hear yourself ... correction, an album you must experience yourself! The true 70s sound with a modern touch and perfect presentation. It is an album I can't get enough of and I think you should listen to it as well. Everything about this album fits, including the cover artwork, which breathes the same melancholic atmosphere the album holds. Production is done by the band themselves, and this again shows a level of professionalism! Thank you Progress Records for signing these guys and thank you Liquid Scarlet for making one of the most refreshing, progressive albums of this year! A must-have for all who love the 70s and true progressive rock!
