The Attila & Dave Project consists of three men that make the sound of six. I was amazed at the volume and density of their compositions. I was also hesitant to call it progressive rock at first. Their new release Illuminated did not sound like what I am accustomed to hearing in that genus; all the same they proved to me that they definitely fit the mold of a progressive rock band.

The opening track "Lotus Eaters" kicks it into high gear straight away with some loud and measured guitar licks from the axe of Dave Stevenson. The third track "Illuminated," is in my conclusion their very best. With nearly eight minutes of profound artistic revelation with musical instruments, the song reaches its finale with surges of power and grace. Passages like "Then leave me in the empty sand, saying illumination comes to the drowning man" or "I'm cold, emptied out, gutted like a fish, try to recall a better place, I place where I didn't feel like this," will change they way you interpret the word illuminated forever. The music and words together made me reflect then intensify my thought process to concentrate on the meaning of it all. As a matter of course whilst listening to this hard to believe trio, you will feel like some kind of deity broke through and entered the dark and shadowy voids found in your mind and soul that you buried so deep that you eclipsed them without realizing it. Not to worry, all those senses will reawaken within you.

Attila Medveczky's voice will entrance you, he sounds like John Lennon during the Beatles psychedelic period. Rusty Aceves primal thundering on percussion will help to lead you into unknown origins of your personality that were just waiting to leap out and scream. It all sounds so emotional and deep, and it is. This is thinking man's music and not for the faint of heart.

Yes, this is real heady stuff and you would think after three consecutive listens that it would have been enough? Not for me, I cannot get enough of music like this. It is so sweetly addicting you will crave the adventure and worlds that it creates for you. This mightily impressive album is one that you will have to hear for yourself to comprehend.
