The debut album by upcoming band Thonk, which was recorded at P?r Lindh's Crimsonic Studios, will have to wait a little longer. Meanwhile Thonk guitarist Fredy Schnyder has recorded some laidback lo-fi material under the pseudonym of Nucleus Torn. Situated between prog and folk, emphasizing mainly acoustic guitar and with firm influences ranging from ?ngl?gard to Anekdoten, clearly embracing the warmth of the analogue seventies, this album is a taster for things to come. With the arrival of singer Patrick Schaad, the music of Nucleus Torn takes another direction so that slight dashes of Soundgarden come and invigorate the overwhelming melancholic feel. In "Witness" electric guitar and piano flow together leaving ample space for a cello, which could have taken this song into another dimension. You clearly hear that all of the material on this mini album has been composed in Schnyder's bedroom, hence the intimate character of the music and the acoustic inclination. By introducing extra instruments such as keyboards, cello, violin this journey could finally get a great destination yet for the time being the only highlight seems to be Fredy's guitar playing, but then again that's of a very high calibre!
