With a proposed US release date of 13th November 2001 (12th November for Europe), Paul McCartney's new album Driving Rain is rumoured to have been featured on the Internet as early as two months ago. All fifteen songs were available as MP3 files two to three months ago, which makes you wonder what happens in the music industry. Could it be that a CD-R is left unnoticed in the studio and that one of the cleaning ladies popped it in her apron only to exchange it for a little bit of extra cash? And why, I hear you say, do we point the finger yet again to those innocent cleaning ladies?

Recorded at the Henson Studios, Los Angeles in February and June of this year, the band, who had never met before, recorded 18 tracks of which 15 have now made it onto the new album. It is the first selection of new songs since Macca's 1997 release Flaming Pie. Two songs on the new album have been written in collaboration with his son James, which marks it as the very first time that a McCartney ? McCartney composition appears on record. The first single pulled from the new album was officially released earlier this month. "From A Lover To A Friend" is a typical McCartney song that could easily have found it's way on Press To Play or Tug Of War. Based around bass and piano, the song actually kicks off with a couple of ambient sounding bars before evolving into a song that sounds as magical as John Lennon's "Imagine." It's a "no strings attached" type of song with a very easy melody that you can immediately hum once you've heard the song for the very first time -- in other words, the kind of song real hits are made of! The song will also feature in the new Tom Cruise movie Vanilla Sky.

Dedicated as a tribute to his late wife Linda, all proceeds of the single will go towards the Fire Department of New York. Remember Paul's dad was a fireman once and Macca himself used the pseudonym The Fireman twice to release more ambient related material.

An enhanced and expanded release of the new album entitled Driving Rain And Blue Sky is planned for December 11th.

These are the tracks for the full album: Lonely Road (3:13) / From A Lover To A Friend (3:46) / She's Given Up Talking (4:55) / Driving Rain (3:26) / I Do (2.57) / Tiny Bubble (4:18) / There Must Have Been Magic (3:56) / Your Way (2:52) / Spinning On An Axis (5:15) / About You (2:52) / Heather (3:22) / Back In The Sunshine Again (4:24) / Your Loving Flame (3:40) / Riding To Jaipur (4:06) / Rinse The Raindrops (10:02)
