For the most part, I abhor any electronic music. I consider most of it mindless rubbish. That is a very strong opinion; nevertheless it is only my opinion, nothing more. Residue From Vapourspace was only considered for review because of what was covered ... some of the best progressive rock music that is being made today. Mark Gage is Vapourspace. He is a very talented manipulator of other people's music. So now we have a new genre that has been born, progressive electronic. Well, in a sense it is. The label where all of these great artists reside is Magna Carta. The label believed in this studio magician enough to give him a crack at some of their best material. It was an arduous process for Gage, and a year later he emerged from behind the mixing boards with an electronic masterpiece. I actually enjoyed this, what a surprise. Its good enough for those of you that enjoy prog-rock, and those that are totally into electronic music will be amazed at the combination of sounds and textures that are used to create this odd but effective musical marriage. An added bonus is the dialogue provided by the artist. He talks about what he did with each song, which provides for some interesting reading.

This is very different, which gives it a definitive uniqueness and makes it stand out amongst all the other similar projects that have been thrown into the endless river of mainstream crap that is found blaring on a teen's radios today. There really are people out there that can turn other people's music into their own if they have the right tools. Mark Gage has the right toolbox and he knows how to use each tool.
