Fritz Knebel from Germany is Artesguitars. He studied at the college of music in Bremen, Germany and completed his studies in the fields of classical guitar, electric guitar, and jazz conduction. His release Devices In Popmusic is a window into his world of music and guitars.

For a better part of this CD Knebel cuts it loose and rocks. I have to hand it to him, he is much more than a Satriani clone, and God knows there have been a slew of those since the 80's have come and gone. He carves his own path for the electric six-string, and very imposingly. There is only one acoustic track, and it's a gem called "Capriccio, Op. 1 No. 24." It's a fine way to end the album with a tribute to an ancient song by a composer. It's done in a true progressive rock guitar player kind of way.

This is all about hard rocking instrumental explosiveness at its very best. It doesn't seem to matter where a guitar player comes from as the language of the instrument is universal and it supercedes any other form of communication. Knebel isn't breaking any new ground here, nor does he offer anything that we haven't heard, and that my dear music lover is completely irrelevant once you hear the music. This is kick ass rock n' roll, and that's all I need to send me on my way without another thought. How about you?
