1968 was the year and psychedelic rock was coming into its own. Even though the establishment rejected it and tried to stop it, it was a like a runaway train that nobody could stop.

The San Diego based Brain Police had just recorded a demo and opened for the popular group Steppenwolf on tour. They were admired and catching on but their demo was never released by a major label, it was only available as a limited pressing and thus became a coveted collector's piece. Decca did release their third single but that's closest they got to making a big deal to establish themselves as rock and roll heavyweight contenders.

Leave it to Akarma Records to change it all for the vinyl junkies that love to hear the groups that nobody remembers. This is a demo, so keep that in mind while listening. I think the sound is quite good when all is taken into consideration. Actually the sound is raw and very garage, just like it should be. The sound gives the LP a characteristic and appeal that will work in their favor for rejuvenating interest in their short but successful legacy. When you hear "Gypsy Women So Fast" you will be wishing that you could have witnessed their act onstage when rock was young. This LP will have to do though. It's a fine remembrance of a great group that could have made a difference if given the chance.

Released by Akarma on CD in 2005
