Lightnin' Hopkins left his mark on the blues. Blues legend and lore will reflect upon his contributions to the culture and genre for many moons to come.

Live At Newport is a tremendous example of a classic Hopkins performance. The venue is famous for such performances as this and Lightnin' was right on the money this day in 1965. He begins the concert by saying hello to his audience and explains how he is not going to tell any stories, just play his music. What you get are all the stories through his music. His unique guitar picking made him sound like a one-man band. Using his thumb for plucking out the bass sounds and his forefinger to create the rhythm, his voice would join the procession and each song would turn into a foot stompin' adventure.

This vinyl LP version is stored in beautiful gatefold sleeves with thoughtful and loving liner notes regarding the man and his music. The sound quality is uncommonly good for a stereo LP and many of the tracks are previously unreleased giving blues lovers and collectors some inspiration to acquire this piece. The fact that this is great music does not hurt one bit either. It is simple; if you love the da blues you gotta have this album.
