Do you really dig the roots music jam band sound? If you do, then you know when it's done live. And the only way to really experience it is to be there when it happens. Spontaneity is the trademark of the genre. Mountain Of Venus takes it to the high road on Live Volume One, making spontaneity a natural occurrence. I am certain this is only the first of many live recordings from them. Taking the proven path of history is not a bad road to take. Look how many live Grateful Dead albums there are between legitimate releases and bootlegs? I am sure there is an inexhaustible supply of material to keep jamband fans happy from now until eternity. I would think that every jamband would want to follow suit to satisfy their loyal followings.

Mountain Of Venus blends their influences into their sound very well. While listening I heard the Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers more than a few times. Their sound is original, although it's not hard not to distinguish the strong influences, particularly when a track runs over fourteen minutes such as "Over The Sky." Any band that every one of these musicians every heard in their lives is bound to come creeping in at some point during a jam that long, it's inevitable. And there is nothing wrong with that at all, after all, where would we all be if we couldn't mirror someone of something that we admired? It applies to all facets of every day life, not just music.

Check out this mountain of musical talent as soon as you can, and if you don't catch them live on the North Coast over the next few months, do the next best thing and pick up this CD, or better yet, do both! This a great band with a varied offering of songs and styles that is sure to wet your musical palette and make you thirsty for more. Its just like a bottle of soda, the sugar is sweet and it makes you even thirstier. Better living through music is my motto. Get rid of the chemicals you don't need them; the music will take you as high as you need to go.
