Think of Argent meets '70s Styx and you have a close approximation of what Vanderhoof sounds like. On A Blur In Time this high potency progressive metal band makes their way, or should I say plows their way through 11 tracks of some of the best classic metal progressive music I have heard in a while. Lead singer Drew Hart really does sound like a combination of Denis DeYoung and Rod Argent, and amazingly so. That is one of the main reasons I enjoyed this CD so much. Of course, the music is fantastic as well; you cannot have one without the other.

Kurt Vanderhoof is obviously the driving force that propels this unit to such heights musically. With the right amount of keyboards used for the necessary prog edge, it gives Vanderhoof's six-string the room it needs to produce that classic rock punch to finish the job.

This is an exciting group of songs! The energy level never drops; it just keeps hammering you with glorious thunderous riffs and the rhythm section of Chris Jacobsen (bass) and Kirk Arrington (drums) will not quit while the beautifully placed layered keyboards of Brian Cokeley smoothes out the rough edges. It all comes together to make for an explosive combination that will keep your interest. In a world of musical mediocrity, bands like this stand high atop the mountain looking down upon everyone else. This is an excellent album well worth your time, you will not regret picking this CD up, I guarantee it.
