The James Bond series of movies has been thrilling audiences in cinemas worldwide since the sixties. Although the music was a secondary pleasure to the visual experience, it certainly provided an additional and memorable element for viewers. The thrill, mystery, and sense of adventure provided by the Bond characters left a lot to the imaginations of young and old alike. Jumping back and forth from steamy hot love scenes to on-the-edge-of-your-seat near death dramatics, there was never a dull moment in the theater or at home when taking in the 007 experience.

This year is the 40th Anniversary for the James Bond series of films. That seems so far fetched by my time perception. Alas, this is just another indicator of my age. Even so, it's a nice feeling to have grown up having fond memories of a majority of the classic films. Bond films provided the ultimate spy vs. villain scenario committed to celluloid. The music always managed to be a star studded affair with the best of the day contributing the most perfectly devised songs as an ongoing backdrop to the action packed films.

My most favorite tunes are "A View To A Kill," by 80's pop darlings Duran Duran, "For Your Eyes Only," by the beautiful and sultry Sheena Easton, and one of many people's favorites for decades now, Paul McCartney, who did a fantastic score of "Live And Let Die." Let it be noted that, although "The Man With The Golden Gun" was a great tune by Lulu, the Alice Cooper version, which is just as good, was unfortunately passed over. I guess there wasn't enough spy and lounge essentials in it to fit into the Bond scheme of things. The only song that seemed totally out of place on this entire collection was Louis Armstrong singing "We Have All The Time In The World." The last two tracks bring Mr. Bond right into the 21st century with a bang. Moby's James Bond Theme From Tomorrow Never Dies and the previously unreleased "James Bond Theme" from the Goldeneye trailer by Parodi and Fair closes out the CD with typical Bond excitement and flair.

You get 22 tracks of essential James Bond music jam packed onto one amazing CD. This has to be the most ultimate set ever conceived. Do yourself a favor and give yourself another treat and pay a visit to the James Bond website, which has several cool downloads of wallpaper and screensavers plus many other goodies and information.

First released in 1992 for the 30th Anniversary of the first film as The Best Of James Bond in single disc and two-disc versions (the second disc w/additional tracks); the single disc version was updated/reissued in 1999, released again in 2002 (for the 40th anniversary; this edition reviewed, with additional tracks), and then again in 2008, with additional tracks (to catch up with more Bond films) with bonus video tracks.
