Progressive World Is Born

Welcome to Progressive World. This section here will serve as one means by which we at Progressive World will let you know what's going on with us here. But, primarily it will be a forum for us to discuss some topic - a topic you can comment on by using the message board in Progressive Rock Talk, or by sending us an email message.

Let me introduce myself, although there is a brief bio of me, Stephanie, under About Progressive World. I am the editor/web designer for this site, so most of the editoral comments and asides are me - my goal being to shed some light on things touched upon in the reviews here. Thus far, it has been providing a missing piece of information that the reviewer did not have at the time he or she wrote the review.

If you were a regular reader of Progressive Music Review, then you already know a bit about me and my attitudes toward progressive music. For those who have not, we've archived past "editorials."

Those familiar with the old Progressive Music Review site will no doubt notice some changes, not the least of which being that we have uprooted ourselves again and moved into the Progressive World tent. Doing so has allowed us to expand our content, meaning more reviewers and more reviews. We are pleased that Larry Daglieri, whom many of you who visit and post at/to Perpetual Motion know already, has allowed us to "reprint" his reviews, which can can be found under The Progressive Voice. [Since 2005, just part of the mix of reviews -ed.] And, of course, we have "reprint" contributions from Jurriaan Hage from his Axion of Choice website, Frank Blades of the Alternate View, and Jeff Keifling who also posts to Perpetual Motion.

Perhaps the biggest change, especially for ye ole' editor, is that we have gone from a quarterly to a weekly. Wow, what a jump! Once a week we'll post new reviews, either of new stuff or of past stuff - which means that you won't find the Quick Takes section under Progressive Music Review anymore, but the reviews once there are still here, with the others. Some of the reviews fit better under The Progressive Voice, Progressive Fringe, and Aural Odyssey, and so have been placed there. [Those last two sections now gone, see Jan '00 editorial -ed]

Okay, enough of all that. This is a new day for a new World [groan].

New reviews for Progressive Music Review include Porcupine Tree's Stupid Dream, Austrian band Matter of Taste's Chateau Obscure and Jack Of Spades, and Fish's latest Raingods With Zippos. Fish fan's might want to also read Larry D's review of Ayeron's Into The Electric Castle, as he (Fish) provides vocals for at least one track, though Fish doesn't figure in the review. Also over in the The Progressive Voice, we have a review of Liquid Tension Experiment's second release. The Progressive Fringe is fallow for our debut, but keep checking back as we update that section with releases on the periphery of Progressive Rock.

Again, welcome to our debut. Enjoy.

The Progressive Voice, etc. were style subgenres, since Larry mostly reviewed Prog Metal releases, and the Fringe would have been for, you know, artists that were sorta/sorta not prog. The inference here is that the LTE review was by LarryD, but it was actually Bobo... but no, some 12 years later, I can't remember what I was thinking at the time. Other than John Gabbard and I were anxious to have ProgressiveWorld make it's debut. - SS Sep 2011
