The Best Of 1999 - Part 2

Before I launch into part 2 of the Best of 1999, featuring Larry D's selections, I thought I might spend a moment in the present to talk about a couple of changes here at Progressive World and highlight what's new this month.

First and foremost, I need to introduce you to a new contributor whom many of you may already know. John "Bo Bo" Bollenberg debuts with us this month, lending his voice to our review sections and sharing with us some interviews he has conducted over the past year.

Bo Bo's thoughts have and continue to grace these other progressive publications: Progression, Mellotron, Aloha (out of Holland), iO Pages, Stage, and Euro Rock Press. For us this month, he has contributed no fewer than 10 reviews, mostly in the Progressive Music Review section. This includes his thoughts on Anekdoten's From Within, E Motive's selt-titled debut, Five Fifteen's Six Dimensions Of Electric Camembert, and others. With more sure to come.

Look also for interviews with Porcupine Tree, Mike + The Mechanics, and Jordan Rudess.

In Progressive Voice, Larry shares with us his review of GB Arts' Return To Forever. And yours truly chimes in with reviews of Tiles' Presents Of Mind, three releases by Rick Ray, including Neurotic Tendencies, Marillion's most recent release, marillion.com, among others.

So then, here is Larry's Top 10 for 1999 (listed alphabetically, and linked to his review):

·Dream Theater - Scenes From A Memory
·Dreamscape - Very
·Eldritch - El Nino
·Evergrey - Solitude*Dominance*Tragedy
·GB Arts - Return To Forever
·Ice Age - The Great Divide
·Lanfear - Zero Poems
·Mayadome - Near Life Experience
·Soul Cages - Craft
·Vanden Plas - Far Off Grace

Send us your "Best of" lists, and we'll post 'em under a new section debuting January 10th - Reader's Picks. Send those lists to sollows@progressiveworld.net with Reader Picks in the subject line.

Later in the month I posted:

As you can see, Progressive World has undergone a facelift, which should make things easier to find. Gone are the Aural Odyssey and Progressive Fringe sections, but the reviews are still here, so we aren't abandoning our scope.

It has been a wild six months, going from weekly, to a daily, to the more manageable monthly. Hopefully, we can start to settle down now into a rhythm.
