On October 14, ECW Press will publish Far And Near: On Days Like These, the new book from Rush drummer Neil Peart. A description of the 312-page hardcover reads as follows: "Whether navigating the backroads of Louisiana or Thuringia, exploring the snowy Quebec woods, or performing onstage at Rush concerts, Neil Peart has stories to tell. His first volume in this series, Far And Away, combined words and images to form an intimate, insightful narrative that won many readers. Now Far And Near brings together reflections from another three years of an artist's life as he celebrates seasons, landscapes, and characters, travels roads and trails, receives honors, climbs mountains, composes and performs music. With passionate insight, wry humor, and an adventurous spirit, once again Peart offers a collection of open letters that take readers on the road, behind the scenes, and into the inner workings of an ever-inquisitive mind. These popular stories, originally posted on Peart's website, are now collected and contextualized with a new introduction and conclusion in this beautifully designed collector's volume."

CD/DVD Releases: New JTC Guitar Hero Ballads Album Feat. Guthrie Govan, Andy James And More
Posted by nightowl on Friday, September 19 @ 18:00:00 PDT (2 reads)
    Album Release News

Well, no, it's not prog. But one of the things I like about music - whether prog rock or mainstream rock (or even not rock at all) - is a moving guitar solo. Gilmour, Rothery, Clapton, Hendrix... it's not about speed, it's about the right notes speaking in the same way vocals do - or even in a way vocals cannot. Ergo, this item drew my attention -ed.

Jam Track Central (JTC) are proud to announce the launch of Guitar Hero Ballads. Their first original album features eleven brand new, exclusive ballad tracks from a star-studded lineup of their own artists.

"Every guitar hero needs a ballad," said Jan Cyrka, co-founder of JTC, "so we decided to create the first ever JTC album. We spoke to a number of the artists on our roster and asked them to compose their ultimate ballads. The result is a powerful album, full of pure emotion and drive that takes you on a journey through the minds of some of the most talented guitar players and composers I know." You can see a trailer for the new album here.

The band has always been a tremendously respected live act and for the first time the energetic live vibe of Freak Kitchen has been captured in the studio. With influences stretching from AC/DC to classical South Indian music the three norsemen, lead by guitar virtuoso Mattias IA Eklundh, truly have a sound of their own. Cooking With Pagans offers eleven intense original songs plus a sophisticated punk pop version of the 1936 hit "Goody Goody" like you never heard it before. Solid, inspired song writing (not to say playing) from start to finish.
