Festival News: IB Expo On Export To Gouveia

Posted on Sunday, February 18 @ 22:13:53 UTC by nightowl

Isildurs Bane announce: We are very proud to announce the latest development of IB Expo, a concept that will have a life of its own during 2007 as you will see in forthcoming newsletters during the year.

For the first time, IB Expo will be exported. It is no coincidence that the importers are the finest festival for art rock: the Gouveia Art Rock festival in Portugal. This is a festival where IB ? and certainly yours truly [Thomas Olsson, IB Newsletter editor] who has been fortunate enough to go to this festival since 2004 ? have felt truly at home with the warm and friendly atmosphere and the genuinely knowledgeable audience. Also, the music has always been great. With names like Peter Hammill, Present, Univers Zero and Miriador, how can you go wrong?

This year on Saturday April 21, IB Expo will headline Saturday night. For those of you who haven?t experienced IB Expo live in Halmstad, here?s your chance to hear an incredible amount of diverse music covering all bases between classical music via jazz to rock and then some.

Performing in Gouveia under the IB Expo banner will be:

Klas Assarsson ? percussion
Luca Calabrese ? trumpet
Jonas Christophs ? electric guitar
Fredrik ?Gicken? Johansson ? bass
Mats Johansson ? keyboards
Bj?rn J:son Lindh ? flute, recorder and keyboards
Linnea Olsson ? cello
Pat Mastelotto ? drums and electronics
Markus Reuter ? touch guitar and laptop
Christian Saggese ? classical guitar
Kjell Severinsson ? drums

Jan Severinsson will do the sound, which means a terrific sound!

The material played will be taken from Isildurs Bane's, Bj?rn J:son Lindh's and Tuner's (Pat & Markus) repertoires. And maybe a couple of tunes by? well, hear for yourself, you will be pleasantly surprised!

As the cherry to top the cake, Christian Saggese will play a recital at the church in Gouveia on Sunday evening, and there will be a round table discussion on improvisation vs. composition on Sunday morning where you will see some familiar IB Expo faces too.

As if that weren't enough, we are in good company. The rest of the line-up consists of: Robert Fripp & The League of Crafty Guitarists, Magma, California Guitar Trio, Kotebel, Caamora and Miosotis.

And then come to Gouveia, you won?t regret it!

In other IB news: As a part of the city of Halmstad's 700th anniversary, a huge happening called Panta Rei will take place on four nights between May 30 and June 2. Mats Johansson is working on the music as of this writing and Isildurs Bane will perform the music with some musicians to be added. This multi-media event will be staged outdoors, in the harbour of Halmstad, and will form a climax to the anniversary proceedings. IB are obviously delighted to be part of the celebration of the band's home base.

Plus: Isildurs Bane are hardly known for cover versions, but as you know, composer Viking Dahl's "The Asylum" is one exception (and there have been a couple of other, more obscure covers, but let's not delve any further into that shall we).

During the summer of 2007, IB will perform the music to Theatre Halland's staging of Brecht & Weill's Threepenny Opera. The idea is to move Kurt Weill's music into the 21st century (without the slightly disturbing sound of Weill turning in his grave in the background).

Even though we are still in a very formative stage, I can already tell you that the end result will be incredibly thrilling. The IB line-up for the Threepenny Opera will be:

Klas Assarsson ? percussion
Luca Calabrese ? trumpet
Fredrik ?Gicken? Johansson ? bass
Mats Johansson ? keyboards and treatments
Christian Saggese ? classical & electric guitar and mandolin
Kjell Severinsson ? percussion

More news on this [and the other items] in forthcoming newsletters! In the meantime, those of you who can read Swedish, go to Theatre Halland?s website and find out more www.teaterhalland.se/
