Artist News: Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister Passes Away At 70

Posted on Monday, December 28 @ 17:25:03 UTC by admin

Through various news sources, the news today of the passing of Motörhead's iconic vocalist/bassist Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister was spreading, just days after his 70th birthday. Over the past several months, shows had been cancelled for various health issues or concerns.

It was just December 7 that MetalInjection posted an article (from Classic Rock) entitled "Motörhead's Lemmy: Stop Asking Me When I'm Going To Die!" (or read it here at Classic Rock). It was just last month that original drummer Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor passed away at 61.

According to an updated article (7:55pm EST) at Vanyaland, the band posted the following message:

"There is no easy way to say this... our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family.

"We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words.

"We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please... play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.

"Have a drink or few.

"Share stories.

"Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.

"HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT.

"Ian 'Lemmy' Kilmister
1945 -2015
Born to lose, lived to win."
