Bio: Michael Schenker is a German hard rock/heavy metal guitarist, known as a founding member of Scorpions, achieved fame as a member of UFO in the middle of the 1970s. Schenker has had a long career that has seen him rise to become one of the most influential and respected rock guitarists of today. He started his musical career at the age of 15, when he joined his brother Rudolf's band Scorpions. Together they produced his debut LP Lonesome Crow (1972). Soon his talent was discovered by the British rock band UFO. He stayed with them for 8 years, recording such classics as Phenomenon, No Heavy Petting or Lights Out. After releasing a live album Stranger In The Night, still considered one of the best live albums ever, Michael left the band to re-join Scorpions, with whom he recorded Lovedrive.

Around 1980 he founded his own band Michael Schenker Group. Throughout the years the band featured such talented musicians as Simon Phillips, Gary Barden, Don Airey, ex-Rainbow Graham Bonnett and Cozy Powell, and Ted McKenny and Chris Glenn from Alex Harvey Band. With MSG he recorded such albums as self-titled The Michael Schenker Group and the subsequent MSG, Assault Attack and Built To Destroy. In the middle of the 80's he started to cooperate with Robin McAuley (vocals in Grand Prix) as McAuley Schenker Group. Though their music differed a bit from Schenker's characteristic style, wavering towards American melodic hard rock in Whitesnake mode, all their albums were warmly welcomed by fans and media alike. Meanwhile, Schenker played numerous tours and gigs with Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and Scorpions, among others.

In 1991 he joined Contraband (with glam-rockers Bobby Blotzer from Ratt and Tracii Guns of L.A. Guns) with whom he recorded one self-titled album. In 1992 McAuley Schenker Group recorded Unplugged Live which turned out to be their last album, and Michael returned to UFO. They played an immensely successful American tour and released Walk On Water, the first album in 15 years, enthusiastically received by fans and journalists. Two years later he released his first acoustic solo album Thank You. He then reactivated Michael Schenker Group in a new line-up and recorded Written In The Sand. The Michael Schenker Story - Live, first presented on tour with Uli John Roth and Joe Satriani, followed in 1997. In 1998 he recorded The Unforgiven (again as MSG) and hit the road with The Unforgiven World Tour. The material recorded during that tour was released in 1999 as The Unforgiven World Tour - Live.

In 2000 his next solo album Adventures Of The Imagination was out (this time he went for an instrumental record, as well as on stylistically similar Dreams And Expressions). Be Aware Of Scorpions was another MSG album (released in 2001). In the following years Michael appeared on another UFO album, Sharks, and released 2 solo albums Thank You 2 and Thank You 3.

In 2003, with a renewed line-up, Michael Schenker Group came back with Arachnophobiac, unanimously acclaimed one of his best albums ever. He also recorded his 4th solo offering Thank You 4.... 2005 brought the 25th anniversary of MSG; Schenker put together a new album called Tales of Rock 'N' Roll to celebrate the anniversary and enlisted singers from each iteration of the band to sing on the album. After nearly-disastrous North American and European tours in 2007, which saw cancelled shows and less-than-stellar performances, Michael regained his composure and hit the road in the UK as Michael Schenker & Friends in 2008. Shows in this tour have received rave reviews and show Michael once again at his best. In early 2008, Michael worked with Gary Barden, Don Airey, Simon Phillips and Neil Murray on a new MSG's album entitled In The Midst Of Beauty, which was released in May 2008.

Michael has recently announced that the touring band for the 2008 MSG tour will feature former MSG members, Chris Glen on bass and Wayne Findley on guitar & keyboards and Chris Slade (The Firm, AC/DC) on drums. [This may be the 2009 In The Midst Of Beauty tour, scheduled for the US in June/July -ed.
