CD/DVD Releases: 3 Seconds Of Air -''The Flight Of Song''; The Black Fire - ''Anthems''

3 Seconds Of Air have been working towards their debut album for almost a decade. Originally the still nameless project was an exploratory vessel for guitar-duo Dirk Serries and Paul Van Den Berg's forrays into unknown territories. The early years were marked by a dialogue between their individual styles, Van Den Berg contributing his blues influences and Serries building on his experience in the field of ambient and drones. With the inclusion of bassist Martina Verhoeven, however, their sound started to change, picking up further depth, resonance and direction. pieces became more epic and complex, Verhoeven's minimal bass opening up bridges to an ethereal take on doom, a slow-motion version of minimal music and the psychedelic experiments of the late 60s and early 70s.

In February of this year, the trio finally felt their musical communication had reached a new level of intuition and proficiency. The Flight Of Song was recorded on two frosty days in the snow-covered Belgian chapel of Sint-Theobaldus. Hot coffee would come to the rescue as a small electric stove proved too noisey to be kept running during the actual recording sessions. On the other hand, the extreme conditions and the breathtaking beauty of the chapel were vital in terms of creating the devastating sensation of sheer majesty and weightless drift the band were looking for: in the end, the entire album was recorded on the spot, with all improvisations captured by a single stereo microphone connected to a laptop.

A must-have for all of you who love the ambient, ethereal and minimal, now available on CD, CD+LP (with an exclusive Bass Communion remix) and in a limited edition of 100 copies (CD+LP on clear vinyl+T-shirt+certificate+goodie bag) through Tonefloat. order here.

When Fear Falls Burning played anonymously as a member of Grey Daturas during their concert at the ZXZW festival in The Netherlands in 2007, something clicked. The Black Fire is the result of the bonding between Black Widow (Robert MacManus of Grey Daturas) and Fear Falls Burning, an album full of fuzzy, spiraling and feedback-ish drones. Limited to 300 copies on 170gram black vinyl and released by Robert's own Heathenskull label.

[...A] bunch of copies are available through VidnaObmana - if you're interested, drop an email to info (at) vidnaobmana.be (we accept PayPal). The LP is 15 EUR + postage.

Plus, related Fear Falls Burning releases:

N - Bergen : Skizzen + Notizen (LP): On this LP Hellmut Neidhardt works together with Fear Falls Burning, Mirko Uhlig and Segment to realize this album of remixes, recyclings and additional performances, based upon N's magnificent Bergen 2LP. Fear Falls Burning recycles one of N's amplified drones while adding his trademark guitar drones to re-create the song. Expected for a release in July/August on the Belgian Consouling Sounds label. Limited to 220 copies on 180 gram vinyl.

Year Of No Light - Live At Roadburn 2008 (LP/DVD): This live album features on side 2 the live registration of Year Of No Light's clash with Fear Falls Burning at Roadburn 2008. Immensely appreciated by the audience, this is a live improvisation between the French band and Fear Falls Burning that balances beautifully between post-rock and drone music. Now available on Roadburn Records in 3 different versions: gold in a silkscreened cover, silver and black vinyl.

Steven Wilson - Insurgentes Remix Album (CD): Insurgentes, the solo album debut from Steven Wilson, was released earlier this year on Kscope. Several artists have been invited to remix tracks from the album and NSRGNTS RMXS is a collection of some of these remixes. The CD edition features mixes by D?lek, David A. Sitek (TV On The Radio), Engineers, Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson) and Fear Falls Burning. Released on Kscope.

Fear Falls Burning Try-Out: Preparing himself for the upcoming tour in October 2009 - dates will be confirmed soon - Fear Falls Burning will perform a try-out concert at the DFM benefit festival, curated by Big City Orchestra. September 12th 2009 - OT 301, Amsterdam (The Netherlands).

Dirk Serries - Microphonics VII (LP): Part two in Dirk Serries' microphonics live series on limited one-sided vinyl for Tonefloat, Microphonics VII is the registration of the performance at the first Antwerp Looping Festival in May 2009. This is most likely the best example on how harmonic, minimal and meditative microphonics can actually get. Microphonics VII will be published on September 22nd, 2009 as a one-sided album on Tonefloat. Pressed in a limited edition of one hundred copies each on gold, silver and white vinyl.

Dirk Serries - microphonics 2010 tour: While we're slowly but surely working on the European microphonics tour in April/May 2010, interest is increasing for a tour in the States. Dirk Serries will return for the very first time since 2003's tour with vidnaObmana to the States in September/October 2010.

We're currently focusing ourselves on the East Coast leg of the US tour so if you're interested in setting up a Dirk Serries' microphonics concert at your venue, don't hesitate to get in touch with us through myspace or directly at: mymicrophonics (at)gmail.com
