On November 27, Cleopatra Records released Airwaves - Live At THe BBC Remastered / Live At The Paris Theatre, a must-have collection of vintage live recordings from British prog rockers, Curved Air. The album reflects the band’s early years of 1970-71, and 1976 when Stewart Copeland, of The Police, is a featured player.

Airwaves includes lush live versions of Curved Air fan favorites, including the band’s first single "It Happened Today," "Midnight Wire" and "Young Mother."

Championed by legendary BBC DJ John Peel, Curved Air is largely regarded as one of the most artistic and musically accomplished rock bands to come out of the UK’s 1970s prog movement. In addition to masterfully combining classic, folk, and electronic elements with traditional rock foundations, it was one of the first bands to incorporate a violin. The band was barely three months old when Peel recorded their first "Top Gear" radio session (represented here). A few years later, he invited them to "John Peel's In Concert" series at Paris Theatre, represented on the second half of Airwaves.

Formed in 1970, Curved Air consisted of Rob Martin (bass), Frances Monkman (keyboard, guitar), Florian Pilkington-Miksa (drums), Darryl Way (violin) and the theatrical, ethereal Sonja Kristina Linwood on vocals. Immediately, the band earned three sizable achievements: touring with Black Sabbath, being the first British band signed to Warner Bros., and releasing the first commercially available LP picture disc.

The intense experimentation with different musical and writing styles brought other exceptional talent to the fold. In the mid-1970s, drummer Stewart Copeland, bassist Tony Reeves, and guitarist Mick Jacques brought with them pop, R&B, and hard rock seasoning, and ushered in another period of innovation by Curved Air. Current and former members have gone on to record and perform with other musical groundbreakers such as Elton John, Jethro Tull, Roxy Music, and John Mayall.

Airwaves - Live At The BBC Remastered / Live At The Paris Theatre is available on iTunes, amazon.com, and at your favorite record store. The CD is $14.98. Stewart Copeland wrote a personal remembrance included in the liner notes as well.

"As my first 'pro' band-mates, Mick Jacques, Tony Reeves... taught me all I needed to know about how to be a rock star. To me, aged 22, they were the salty dogs who had Been There." – Stewart Copeland
