Karma to Burn was a desert rock/psychedelic rock band from Morgantown, West Virginia (US) comprised of guitarist William Mecum, bassist Rich Mullins and drummer Nathan Limbaugh (later to be replaced by Rob Oswald for Wild, Wonderful Purgatory). Some early reports on Karma To Burn stated that the band had "vocalist problems". The truth of the matter is the band is at heart an instrumental band. The band had experimented with vocalists before (ex-Kyuss frontman John Garcia briefly worked with them), but a vocalist (Jason Jarosz) was recruited for their debut only to satisfy their record label. The vocalist departed soon afterwards, and the band reverted to its preferred status as an instrumental trio, as well as to their convention of naming every song simply as a number, which they did on their last two albums.

With all the consternation around the singer, hardly anybody noticed the drummer change. Some time before the release of the album Nathan was replaced by Chuck Nicholas. In April and May of 1997 Karma To Burn toured Europe. Among other events, they played at the illustrious metal festival Dynamo Open Air, where they met John Garcia and his new band Slo-Burn again. In an unannounced special set, Karma To Burn jammed with John Garcia, who did some vocal parts for them. A very special event with a surprised crowd.

In August and September of 1997, Karma To Burn toured the USA. They opened nine shows on the Corrosion Of Confirmity/Drain S.T.H. tour and, later, ten shows for Clutch. During that tour, Clutch's Neil Fallon and COC's Pepper Keenan jumped on the stage to perform with Karma To Burn a cover version of ZZ-Top's "La Grange." Thus they both joined the exclusive group of people that have sung with Karma To Burn...

In the Fall of 1997, K2B were kicked out by their label. Or K2B disconnected themselves from the label. Whatever it was, they were no longer together. Roadrunner didn't want instrumental records and K2B was an instrumental band. In June 1998 Karma To Burn's drummer Chuck Nicholas left the band and was replaced by Rob Oswald. Musically, the band is tough to describe - they are closest to stoner rock, but their instrumental nature and tendency to experiment place them a bit beyond the standards of that genre. With their uncompromising instrumental sound, echoing that of such desert rock bands as Kyuss and The Obsessed, it was not an easy band to fully understand, but surely an intriguing one. The band unofficially disbanded in mid 2002.

Treponem Pal's story begins in 1986, in a time when pop glitz or American glam metal reigned the European music scene. Back then industrial metal was just starting to grow; however, the genre's turning point was close - groups such as Skinny Puppy and Front 242 begun aggressively marking their presence on the scene. You might say that Treponem Pal emerged in a time that was groundbreaking for the genre - for it was 1988 when Ministry's Land Of Rape And Honey was released. It was also this year the French band's line-up got solidified and featured: Michael Bassin (guitar), Marco Neves (vocals), David Lebrun (drums) and Alain Fornasari (bass). Their self-titled debut arrived in 1988 on Roadracer and Treponem Pal frontman Marco explained his vision for the band as a mix of industrial influences (Einsturzende Neubauten, The Swans, Test Department), electronics (DAF, Kraftwerk) and even tribal drumming.

In the late 80s Treponem Pal transcended its roots and toured Europe for two years with The Young Gods and Prong, developing a mad following along the way. The early 90s were spearheaded by Wax Trax!, the Chicago label which gave the world KMFDM, Front Line Assembly, Meat Beat Manifesto, Ministry, and many others. Their style sharply influenced the hard rock and metal scene, which suffered the last jolts of bland 80s rock. 1991 was also the year of Aggravation, a record that revealed Treponem Pal's powerful, sensitive and tribal elements. The band focused on the vision of enlarging industrial's scope rather than narrowing it to one style that could be easily described ... or dismissed.

In 1992 the band toured with Scorn, Godflesh, Pitch Shifter, and during Lollapalooza, Michel Bassin performed as Ministry's guitarist and Marco was a guest singer for their live set. In 1993, Franz Treichler of The Young Gods produced the critically acclaimed Excess & Overdrive, which featured the club hit "Pushing You Too Far." With the addition of a new bassist, Treponem Pal signed with Mercury/PolyGram in 1996. Sascha Konietzko of KMFDM was chosen as a producer and the album was recorded in Seattle at Bad Animals Studio. The sonic connection between Treponem Pal and KMFDM is clear, and Michel's turbulent guitar work also appears on the upcoming KMFDM album. "Higher" presents the band's view of music at the end of the century, a sound that unites technology, power, wisdom and groove. The band also pays sly homage to their electronic roots with Kraftwerk's "Radioactivity," and offers a twisted version of Lipps Inc.'s "Funkytown." 1999 marks the beginning of a long downtime for Treponem Pal.

After 15 years of intense band life, the group feels the urge to take a break. 2006, the beast is back! Starting with a clean slate, Marco Neves is more determined than ever to challenge and storm the French industrial rock scene where it all began. The goal is set to revive the energy of the early recordings, adding an electronic touch along with years of wisdom. He soon brings into the fold his longtime partner Didier B, the only remaining band member still standing from the original line-up, others having pursued different musical interests or no musical interests at all, to write new material. Franck Tomse steps in for the recording of guitars with Marco's guidance. At the end of 2006, a demo is finalized and Franck departs the project, unavailable for upcoming Treponem Pal activities. In early 2007 the line-up got completed and the band got busy gathering positive vibes and preparing the new sound bomb, joined by Ted Parsons on drums (Swans, Prong, Godflesh, Jesu) and Paul Raven on bass (Killing Joke, Prong, Ministry). The band is now getting ready to take the stage, as early as this summer, for a dozen European festivals and is scheduled for studio time this fall to finalize the album. The long awaited return in 2008 becomes even more anticipated - surely, no one doubts that the new material will be a huge success, as well as a one of the biggest events on the industrial metal scene.

Back in the 80s they were one of the biggest European thrash sensations on the scene, characterized by intense, energetic riffing and unique vocals of Flemming Ronsdorf, somewhat reminiscent of Slayer and Megadeth from the same era. The band was formed in 1982 in Taastrup, in the suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. The band members were: guitarists Jorgen Sandau and Michael St?tzer, bassist Morten St?tzer, drummer Carsten Nielsen and singer Carsten Lohmann. The band won a worldwide acclaim even before their first album, thanks to some well-distributed demos (repackaged and re-released later as Deadly Relics). Their debut album Fear Of Tomorrow and the follow-up Terror Squad have gained a legendary status, becoming some of the most thrilling thrash releases of the late 80s period. They wrote killer riffs and their guitar tones on the debut were heavily distorted much like their German thrash counterparts. However, the overall mix and recording was not great. It wasn't a problem though as it is the aggression and the riff work that makes this disc a great listen. "Time Has Come", the number opening the album, is a perfect example of a great thrash song. It's fast and furious but changes several times. For years this album was nearly impossible to find, other than on the double album release with their second album Terror Squad. However, that pressing omitted "King Thy Name Is Slayer" and the title track.

Terror Squad is definitely Artillery's shining moment with lots of mosh beats, great thrash riffs, plenty of speedy solos, and unique vocals that are a balanced mixture of growl and melody. Their first album for Roadrunner, By Inheritance, repeated the impressive success of the previous LPs. Flemming Rasmussen finally crafted a more than competitive sound for the band which was often compared with Metallica's Master Of Puppets. The Bay Area touch is still there in terms of the riffing. The two guitarists Michael and Morten St?tzer burn a true fireworks of good guitar riffs. The vocals of Flemming Ronsdorf sound technically better than before. Absolutely insane songs like "Khomaniac", "Don't Believe" or the godly instrumental "7:00 From Tashkent" are the highlights of this release. There are no weak moments on this record! Maybe Artillery have become more melodic but in return the song writing has improved.

Unfortunately, after that Artillery was put on hold for almost 9 years, to ultimately return in 1999 with another amazing release, B.A.C.K. with the unique vocals of Ronsdorf and thrash riffing that were trademarks of the band in their prime still intact. Today, the band still remains active, although there are no signs of a new recorded material yet. During the wait, the fans are granted a unique chance to rediscover the band's whole discography in one exclusive box set.
