Artist News: News Bits for December
Posted by nightowl on Tuesday, December 31 @ 18:00:00 PST (125 reads)
    Album Release News

So... we almost came back in October... and then things went sideways again. I'm beginning to feel like a crab (and my friends 'n' family would agree that I've been crabby, to say the least). Anyway, aside from the myriad of items already posted, here's a quick catch up on some other items that we found worth mentioning (or felt we oughta mention for various reasons) -- beyond the usual album release date stuff and band announcements for festivals (which, if we didn't post to news, we just plugged into the appropriate page):

Mirek Gil sent us news that "the legendary Polish prog rock band Collage reunited" in August. "Collage has just started heavy rehearsals for the upcoming international tour," he writes. "There are also plans for a brand new album next year. Collage 2013 reunion line up is a classic one from the Moonshine period, with one exception. Robert Amirian has been replaced by awesome vocalist Karol Wroblewski, already known from Believe and Mr. Gil."

Line up: Karol Wroblewski - voice, Pior Mintay Witkowski - bass, Mirek Gil - guitar; Krzysztof Palczewski - keyboards, and Wojtek Szadkowski - drums. [Source: Mirek Gil/Collage]

CD/DVD Releases: Bigelf Announce Release Of New Studio Album For March 2014
Posted by nightowl on Tuesday, December 31 @ 15:39:56 PST (107 reads)
    Album Release News

It's been a long time coming, but Bigelf are at long last pleased to announce that they will release their brand new fourth studio album entitled Into The Maelstrom on the 4th of March 2014 throughout North America. Frontman and mastermind Damon Fox had this to say:

"I think ITM is the best Bigelf record yet and I believe it is a real game changer for the band. It's gonna put us over the top! Psychedelic cinematic landscapes and melodic prog-doom set the stage for the new album, I cannot wait for fans (old and new) to experience all of its apocalyptic color."

CD/DVD Releases: "Songs, Poems And A Lady" - Empirical Time Releases A New Album
Posted by nightowl on Tuesday, December 31 @ 14:07:21 PST (103 reads)
    Album Release News

Italian prog rockers Empirical Time have released their debut Songs, Poems And A Lady through Ma.Ra.Cash. Records; recorded at Prosdocimi Recording Studio and mastered by Ronan Chris Murphy.

"It seemed a thing that could not feel the touch of earthly years”, recites the first verse of "A Slumber Did My Spirit Seal," the opening track of the disc. The listener is soon left with a question: Who is this mysterious woman? The woman behind the cover, the "lady" of the title? This will be a question that the listener will arise for the duration of the disc, which leads him to imagine and try to decipher the identity and the features of this elusive lady who, like diamonds, "has got a thousand faces." It is perhaps a divine entity that, in fact, is not affected by the passage of time? It is perhaps the cold and motionless corpse of a young girl: "No motion Has she now, no force; She neither hears nor sees." Or a young lover, "as fresh as a rose in June”? Or is the synthesis of all this?

CD/DVD Releases: Transatlantic Release New Album In January, Tour Planned
Posted by nightowl on Monday, December 30 @ 18:16:48 PST (122 reads)
    Album Release News

The quartet of Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy, Pete Trewavas and Roine Stolt - collectively Transatlantic - will release their next album on January 27, 2014. Entitled Kaleidoscope, it marks the supergroup's fourth studio release. Doesn't seem possible that their first release, SMPTe, was released 13 years ago! But then again, there was that eight year gap between album number two, Bridge Across Forever... I know there is something snarkier I could say there ... and album number three, 2009's Whirlwind.

Nevertheless, Kaleidoscope is on the horizon, and the band are set to tour the US, Canada and South America in February, and Europe in March. Once again they'll be joined by Pain of Salvation's Daniel Gildenlöw as a 5th touring member.

The US Festival (US is an acronym for "Unite Us In Song") held on Memorial Day of 1983 was a massive three-day celebration of music and culture sponsored by Steve Wozniak, formerly of Apple Computer. Wozniak financed the entire thing himself (approx. 10 million dollars), and his motivation quoted as "to throw a big party in the middle of nowhere" is quite an understatement. This festival was a follow up to 1982 Labor Day inaugural Us Festival events. The festivals were intended to be the celebration of evolving technologies; a marriage of music, computers, television and people.

CD/DVD Releases: New November and December Titles From Musea Records
Posted by nightowl on Sunday, December 29 @ 14:27:54 PST (772 reads)
    Album Release News

In the past couple of months, Musea Records have released or are distributors of a ton of titles. So here's a round up:

Ange - La Gare De Troyes (Musea digisleeve edition) - Ange is undoubtedly the most popular French Progressive Rock band. Their music is based on the typical melodramatic voice of Christian DeCamps , powerful organ sounds of his brother Francis, as well as on the development of themes medieval, energetic and intense. The formation invented their own style, both epic and delirious, mixing madness, emotions and exacerbated feelings. This poetic French rock has taken shape since the formation of the group in 1969 (En Concert 1970-1971 contains unreleased tracks from the first period , especially the rock opera "L'Epopée Du Général Machin," with the first bassists and guitarists in the group) and was formalized on Caricatures , their first album released three years later. Le Cimetière Des Arlequins, released twelve months later, is the most popular triptych of Progressive rock from DeCamps brothers: Au-Delà Du Délire , published in 1974 , Emile Jacotey in 1975 and Par Les Fils De Mandrin in 1976.
