CD/DVD Releases: New Live Album By Roz Vitalis
Posted by nightowl on Saturday, October 12 @ 15:00:00 PDT (140 reads)
Band News (tours, comings/goings, etc) Anonymous writes "

Roz Vitalis (Saint-Petersburg, Russia) informs us about the digital release of their newest "Live Official Bootleg" titled Live At Saint Peter Prog Fest #5. It was recorded - in April 2013 - in the course of support of the second Saint Petersburg tour of the Finnish band Dasputnik. This completely instrumental recording contains both newest (previously unreleased) tracks and rearranged versions of "hits" like "Painsadist," "Gorgeous Cliff" and "Mother Of All Rain." These three compositions are known to listeners of the two last studio albums Revelator (2011) and Patience Of Hope (2012) released by Mals Records. Like any Roz Vitalis stuff, the style is the "Unclassifiable Branch of Prog Rock," and the music is about The Ineffable and The Unfathomable, in particular, about human aspiration for The Unapproachable Light.

The album can be downloaded at Roz Vitalis' Bandcamp page: rozvitalis.bandcamp.com/album/live-at-saint-peter-prog-fest-5

    Band News (tours, comings/goings, etc)

Oxford, England-based quartet Prospekt has signed with progressive metal linchpin Sensory Records, a division of The Laser's Edge, for the October release of the band's debut full-length.

Coalescing the fierce technicality of progressive metal with the symphonic elements of contemporary prog through brutal riffs, odd time-signatures, and majestic melodies, Prospekt's sound is influenced by bands such as Dream Theater, Symphony X, Opeth, and Circus Maximus, as well as film scores and fusion. The band's intent is to create an intelligent and atmospheric mix of melodic, modern progressive metal, incorporating passionate high-range vocals, frenetic guitar work, haunting orchestration and solid grooves, every composition remaining interesting and original.

Artist News: Mike Portnoy Leaves Adrenaline Mob, Will Tour With Winery Dogs, More
Posted by nightowl on Monday, July 22 @ 20:47:48 PDT (289 reads)
    Band News (tours, comings/goings, etc)

In early June, Mike Portnoy announced that he would be amicably parting ways with Adrenaline Mob, the band he formed with Russell Allen (Symphony X) and that includes guitar virtuoso Mike Orlando (Sonic Stomp) and Disturbed bassist John Moyer. His plan was to play out the last few dates of Adrenaline Mob's tour in Latin America before focusing on the myriad of other projects he is involved with.

Portnoy is quoted as saying, "Unfortunately, I have scheduling conflicts that prevent me from being able to fully commit to the band's future activities at the moment.

"As I cannot be in two places at the same time, I don't want to hold them back and have to wait for my schedule to re-open up to resume activity.

"I'm very proud of what we started together and the music we made over the past two years and I wish the guys all the best in the future."

Concerts: Therion To Take Rock Opera On The Road
Posted by nightowl on Sunday, June 23 @ 14:20:00 PDT (304 reads)
    Band News (tours, comings/goings, etc)

Swedish progressive/experimental metallers Therion will take their upcoming rock opera on the road in Europe December. Support on the trek will come from Arkona, The Devil and Sound Storm.

Comments Therion mastermind Christofer Johnsson: "When announcing that we will be working on a rock opera for some years, we were met with many deep sighs as the original plan was to stay off touring completely and only do a few festivals once in a while (to not completely lose contact with the fans meanwhile). I've learnt over the years that it's better to focus on one thing and not interrupt it with a lot of other types of activities. I am, however, not unable to change my mind if there is a good reason for it.
