Chain - Chain.exe
Year of Release: 2004
Label: ProgRock Records
Catalog Number:
Format: CD
Total Time: 79:57:00After the great success of Frameshift and the solo album 13 Days, Henning Pauly comes back with his group, Chain.
The feedback coming from the release of Frameshift let him publish an album aided by a bigger budget and a collaboration with some famous artists such as Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa) and Michael Sadler (Saga).
Chain.exe is very different from Reconstruct, the previous album: it shows a metal side that Reconstruct hadn?t because it was a mix between prog rock and metal. This time it is really prog metal alternating softer and more melodic sections that give that touch of variety to this very complex album. The guitar riffs and the music in general are more hard edged, with Pauly?s classic style on the guitar, using the wah wah effect a lot. Sometimes we can find some diversions like fusion and hard rock. Plus Matt Cash?s voice is a distinctive sign, considering that his tone isn?t the classic prog metal way of singing, instead it is a poppier style. Maybe the string arrangements aren?t convincing like in the past efforts, however.
Great work for Pauly and Chain.
