Among the youth in this world, metal is quite popular; however, more specifically, nu-metal is. Bands like Korn, Linkin' Park and Limp Bizkit are very popular. But, often these bands mix hip hop elements in the music. According to the press bio, Anger is also a nu-metal band, but fortunately they have no hip hop elements in their music.

Anger is a Portugese band, active since 1994 and The Bliss is their third release. Interestingly enough, the album was originally released in 2003, but only in Portugal. Due to the massive response to the album, they signed a deal with Armageddon Music, and now the album is available world wide.

To start with: the album will most definitely appeal to the fans of Devin Townsend and maybe even Strapping Young Lad, although I wouldn?t call The Bliss extreme metal. But opener "Feel My Anger" could have featured Mr. Townsend, as singer Pereira screams in a similar way. But fortunately the band does not use the screams in all songs, so there is variety and at times the band moves into the alternative corner. Drums and bass sound ok, but not spectacular and they do not really dominate. They are good in the mix together with the ever heavy guitars. At times the guitars have this doom-edge, which works well with the dark vocals of Pereira.

For this release they worked with Tommy Newton (Guano Apes, Helloween) and although I haven't heard their other work, but no doubt production wise this album sounds a lot better because of it.

The music is very driven and sometimes aggressive, but there is room for melody and not every song is a copy of the previous one. For the metal heads that are looking for a modern sound, Anger might be the band they are looking for. The album is a bit short, but then again, for their sound, to me 46 minutes is good enough. Still, it is not a bad album and they certainly do not follow the mass, but create their own sound. It's just not my kind of music (entirely).
