Beginning your career as a cover band is not going to endear you to progressive rock fans when it comes to your own material. Inevitably, you will always be linked and labeled as a clone to that band. That is the exact position that RPWL is in, yet, they seem quite comfortable and accepting of this, as there are some pure Floydian moments on World Through My Eyes. Floyd is directly quoted on a vocal effect during "Everything Was Not Enough," which actually sounds more akin to an old Supertramp ballad (here we go with the comparisons). The 8 minute "Sea-Nature" takes the Floyd influence to prominence during its instrumental sections, with the Fender Rhodes keyboards and synth lines. So there is no denying the influence, but you will also find well-constructed songs accompanied by extremely catchy melodies. This seems to be the real strength of the band.

If moody melodies are your thing, than the World Through My Eyes should find itself in regular rotation. "3 Lights" is a perfect example of this, a haunting song, with layered vocals and a hypnotic pace. It slowly begins to unfold as a keyboard solo bubbles out, leading the song to its crescendo with a tailor made guitar solo. Ex-Genesis vocalist Ray Wilson guests on "Roses" a song that should find its way to the radio along with "Day On My Pillow" & "Wasted Land," all showcase hook laden choruses, with that melancholy edge.

The title track shows the band at their spacey best, and includes a bit of mid-eastern influence that can also be found in the disc's opening track "Sleep." Musically, the band never gets too adventurous, a few extended instrumental sections, but the music does not call for complex rhythm or time changes. "World Through My Eyes" is a strong CD teetering between pop and progressive. They succeed in both realms, and do it well.
