Gold is the last Presence CD to date. It comes just after the good Black Opera and it represents perhaps the best album from this Italian band, along with The Sleeper Awakes.

With this release, the group comes back to the original lineup, consisting only of three elements: the great Sofia Baccini on vocals, Sergio Casamassima on guitars and the polyinstrumentalist Enrico Iglio.

The sound of this album is more hard edged and particularly complex, but also more melodic than in the past. There is a more keyboard oriented approach, and sometimes some Magellan echoes may be heard, but the results are better than American hard progsters. The guitar riffings and solos are very involving and tasteful and Sofia's voice is at its best. Another surprise is some acoustic parts that hardly were heard in the past.

However, this is a great hard prog release with many different aspects, for a band at its best.
