If you haven't already heard of this quartet, it is just a matter of time. Spock's Beard has chartered their services to play on the upcoming album.

The group consists of two violinists (Eric Gorfain and Daphne Chen), a violist (Leah Katz), and a cellist (Richard Dodd). These four hired guns are talented technicians. They're quick on the draw, accurate, and focused on the job at hand. The gang travels light, needing nothing more than their string instrument of choice. It would be a mistake to underestimate their abilities. They give a stone cold delivery that is sure to catch more than a few glances.

The music isn't necessarily progressive rock. It is purely classical music in nature; however, the song selection is the real attraction. They play some new wave progressive music. Radiohead is played twice ("Just" and "No Surprises") and we get a single selection each from Coldplay ("Trouble") and Tool ("Undertow"). Queens Of The Stone Age is given their due in a rendition of "No One Knows" that sounds very Celtic in nature. They've chosen a classic rock song a piece from Led Zeppelin ("Dazed And Confused"), Iron Maiden ("The Trooper"), KISS ("Detroit Rock City"), and Cream ("Sunshine Of Your Love").

The remaining selections make it clear they've been around the block a time or two in the music world. These choices are also the highlights of the album. They play the unforgettable, but somewhat unknown, title song from Jeff Buckley's Grace. This is more than enough to wet your whistle early on. If that's not enough, the album is finished off with a scoop of the flavor of the day. This is when they share an incredible interpretation of The Darkness' hot hit single "I Believe In A Thing Called Love."

If you are into classical music, want to hear clever covers of some great songs, or are curious of the cohorts taken in by Spock's Beard, plug into The Section Quartet's No Electricity Required.
