Breaking Silence is a 5-piece band from Greece. The band was formed back in '92 but due to military service they were forced to lay low until 1997. That very same year, they released their highly acclaimed demo disc Second Calling. In 2000 the band is signed to Danish label Serious Entertainment and has just released their new CD Impact. As a proud owner of Second Calling, I was very happy to get the chance to review their new album as this is a very talented band.

Breaking Silence plays a kind of power/prog or semi-progressive melodic metal if you want. I guess Operation Mindcrime/Empire-era Queensrÿche could be a reasonable comparison. Not only because of their style of music, but also because of vocalist George Baharidis' excellent vocals, which sound a lot like Tate. The rhythm section sound very tight and the guitar work is especially worth mentioning as this guy pulls off some really catchy, crunchy riffing throughout the CD. Great stuff! You gotta love it!

Although it might take some spins to really get into some of these songs, that fact doesn't take away the undeniable strength of this material. Songs such as "One More Cry," "No One Cares" and "These Were The Days" are simply irresistible. Although not all songs are of the same high calibre, Impact still is an impressive album and together with the absolutely excellent production, this is a worthwhile purchase. Fans of semi-progressive melodic metal will make no mistake buying this CD.
