The Sullied are four guys on mission to make sure that you rock until you drop. They are Sully (vocals/guitars), David Ragsdale (violin), Rochon Westmoreland (bass) and Eddie Garcia (drums).

A negative connotation like sullied would indicate that there is not a lot of self-respect for the individuals in this band. Do not let the name throw you off, it does not mean what you think. Think of Meltdown as down and dirty rock 'n' roll with no bullshit. The group's multi-talented leader is Sully, who plays one mean ass guitar and sings as if it was his last gig. The rest of the boys in the band have been righteously sullified by his musical magic, and I was mesmerized myself during the entire run of this CD.

After every song, I found myself saying, "This is great." What was most appealing for my own personal listening requirements was the fact that I heard so many different styles of rock music it never gave me a chance to feel discontented. That is a key triumph in winning me over.

The use of the electric violin was an unusual ingredient for this type of music; actually, I cannot remember when I have heard it used in such an aggressiveness context before. Ragsdale is like a rocking Jean Luc Ponty, so to speak. Speaking of the word "aggressive," Sully attacks each song with his guitar and voice, he impresses me as a warrior going in to battle. His command of the six-string comes offered up as a rock smorgasbord cooked to your specifications, what ever kind of guitar style you want to hear, its on the menu. The one song that grabbed me by the family jewels was the awesome instrumental "The Devil's Own." It is an exciting barrage of string bending from a guitar virtuoso with complete control of his instrument.

If you have not heard of Sully and his band The Sullied, trust me, you will soon. This is one of the best rock albums of the year, and I say that without any hesitation.
