What comes to your mind first when you think of a Chemical Vacation? It is obvious, even to those that never put a mind-altering substance into their body. If you look beyond that thought, there is more. It is actually about naturally occurring chemicals in the body in relation to our emotions. This is the title of the new album from the Canadian band called Sea of Green. Check out the name of their label, Music Cartel. There is some irony in that as well, I say no more. There are some clear messages in front of you before you ever listen to the music, oh yeah the music?

This album is a straight up ballsy rocker with no relief for your eardrums, not a second. That is exactly why I liked it. This is animated music with lots of guitar, bass and drums. Oh, by the way, this is only a trio I am talking about here. Man do they make some noise, and they know how to use the tools of the trade to get the desired sound and effect on each track.

Even though I would consider this heavy metal music, they show that melodic rock is part of their range as well. "Out Of My Head" is a fine example of why they are more than just a one-dimensional band. The track has a twang-fuzz-funky guitar sound, which is very catchy and a song that will demand repeated listens (3 times for me). Then on "Life", more diversity comes by way of a funk-metal opening bass riff followed by some hook laden guitar lines. Those are just two examples of what they are capable of pulling off. They really hold down the fort from the beginning of this disc right until the end. They may look like a bunch of punk-metal tough guys but they let their music do all the talking while putting to rest any misunderstanding of who they are real fast. Let me put it this way, their music is as tough as they look.

Rest assured you would rock steady to these tunes any time of day or night, even on Sunday. This is a dynamite album.
