They have lost some pieces along the road (guitarist Fuhrman and bass player Browne), but American progsters Cairo are still on the racetrack, and even better, are releasing a new album that could be the best of their career! A career that unfortunately struggles to take off, even if the band has an exceptional keyboard player, Mark Robertson, is under contract with quality prog-label Magna Carta, and plays great Yes/ELP influenced stuff that would make their forefathers proud. In fact Time Of Legends, their third opus, introduced by a beautiful cover, tries immediately to erase the past disappointments by giving us more than 40 minutes of seventies-inspired music, an album that will be gratefully accepted by the people that still love this magic sound. The opener, "Underground", along with "The Prophecy", are the first highlights that blow through the speakers, and both comprise a brilliant mix of "vintage" keys and mellow guitar that complement each other so well. Here, in these songs, it really seems that the secret sons of Wakeman and Howe are playing their chords off, and the only thing that can possibly spoil the party is that sometimes the passages resemble the originals a bit too much; but that's only a minor point. Freshness is found however with "Scottish Highlands", one song that truly bears a vivid image of the mystic lands located in the North, "You Are The One" and "Cosmic Approach", with its cold, spatial gait. The remaining two songs of the album, "Coming Home" (well, here the title seems to speak for itself) and "The Fuse", mark the return to the Yes atmospheres that started the record; two other well-done homages presented by Cairo to the legends they still believe in!
