Jorn Lande is a mix between Geoff Tate and Russell Allen. Firstly, his music adopts the melodious conflagration of Queensr?che. Secondly, the control and power he has over his voice is on par with Symphony X's impressive helmsman. Add to that the fact that Jorn Viggo Lofstad, the ardent shredder from Pagan's Mind, is also a part of the incendiary lineup.

Originally, I put this album on because the cover snappishly snatched my attention from unrelated tasks. There is so much going on in the art that it smells of Ed Unitsky's abstract realms. Plus, the implication of destructive forces at play on the canvas' sandy hills intimate the kind of demonic battlefields that more often than not rot on Iced Earth's leathery pelt. Flipping the cardboard flapjack, the stilted protectorates on the back look like Imperial AT-AT walkers on the landscape of Frank Herbert's Dune. In other words, the imagery is abnormally busy ? i.e. schizophrenic.

As to the what's behind the wizard's bloodstained curtains, there isn't a single weak track to be found there.

The one that's the cheesiest as well as the most fun is the house party rock of "Shadow People." Taking a pleasurable turn for the worst, "Soul Of The Wind" hints to archangel-like soldiers with darkness in their hearts.

Later on, "Inner Road" takes us to the netherworld and back. Whether coincidence or malicious intent, "Hellfire" comes next and ends the album with a symphonic spread on toasty pyre. In the final cursed verses, there is no toying around. As we may have had fun and games early on, the conclusion is seriously pallid; spawning a fireball of excruciating bliss.

But in lieu of bereavement, there is an upside. As demonstrated in the aforementioned span of descriptions, the songs are balanced between good and evil. Not to mention the title track slash opener provides instant gratification and treasure at the resplendent base of this promiscuous rainbow.

So whatever your poison, this capricious release by Jorn will give the devil and his moral advocates a reason to hit play no matter the mood they're in.
