D'Rivera, Paquito - Brazilian Dreams
Year of Release: 2002
Label: MCG Jazz
Catalog Number: MCGJ 1010
Format: CD
Total Time: 52:36:00This CD is a musical match made in heaven. Paquito D'Rivera performs with the New York Voices and Claudio Roditi to create a gorgeous blend of Brazilian Dreams featuring smooth and buoyant Latino jazz music with originals by D'Rivera and standards composed by the legendary Jobim.
This extraordinary live recording features D'Rivera on alto saxophone and clarinet while Roditi adds his delightful trumpet to the mix to give the music added flavor and appeal. A well-rounded worldly approach is taken with this set of songs by smartly employing Roditi's talents and adding the beautiful NY voices of Kim Nazarian (vocals), Lauren Kinhan (vocals), Darmon Meader (tenor saxophone, vocals), Peter Eldridge (vocals).
Considering that this is a live performance I could not have been more pleased with the song selection or the sound quality, it is excellent. Any recording that I have ever heard from the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild has been beyond reproach and expectations, they continually offer a complete jazz experience.
This is music that has a rhythm and soul that invites you to relax and soak up the rays of the warm sun burning in your mind. If at first that was not your intention, it happens anyway because it pulls you right in and takes you away to that special space inside your head that only you can go to unwind and let go of all your stress and troubles. Yes, this is jazz music for the ages and one CD that you should not pass up.
