Il Trono Dei Ricordi is a fivepie-ce from Italy whose sound combines only the best of the symphonic rock ever to emerge on this planet. You hear echoes of Banco, PFM, Il Balletto Di Bronzo and Rovescio Della Medaglia in conjunc-tion with British counterparts such as Yes and ELP.

The 20-minute "The King Of Memories" evokes loads of classical influences on piano, synth and bouzouki, based on a heavy backbo-ne of guitar, drums, and Hammond organ. Not only is the voice of Alberto "The Wizard" Mugnaini from the same school as that of John Wetton, it also doesn't sound like an Italian singing in English at all. I kept on searching for an accent but I had to give up ... smiling! Furthermore the lyrics are of a very high quality as they are based on the poetry of the famous English poet William Blake. "A Memorable Fancy" opens very bombastic, whilst the hoarse voice battles its way through the drum breaks and guitar licks.

In "On The Rising Sun" the music evolves to an absolute highlight by means of some underlying ELP influences and ... saxophone. "Visions Of The Daughters of Albion" concludes this disc in which Mugnaini tries to get as close to the Genesis-Gabriel as possible. The result is frigh-tening and breathtaking at the same time. There's even a snippet of PFM's "Celebration" tucked away somewhere before the rhythm becomes more contemporary. In fact it continously changes between a nowadays structure and the haydays of the seventies. It's like there's a constant reminder of the big times by means of musical flashbacks! But above all this is a band from the nineties which has ALL of the necessary elements at it's disposal to make it big in progland. To top it all, the album comes with a stunning triple foldout cover by upco-ming American artist Michael Bennett (the new Roger Dean?). A must have if ever there was one!
